Identify colors in a saved photo
Updated
ColoredEye can read colors in pictures you already have, such as a photo of a paint chip, a screenshot of a chart, or a picture someone sent you.
Open a photo
- Tap Choose photo, the square button to the left of the shutter in the bottom bar. On an iPhone held sideways it's at the top of the column on the right edge.
- Pick a photo. The whole photo opens, fitted to the screen. VoiceOver announces Photo opened. Drag or zoom to read any spot.
- Drag the photo until the spot you want is under the crosshair in the middle of the screen.
- Pinch, or double-tap the photo, to zoom in.
- Tap the photo with two fingers to zoom out.
- Read the name and values on the color card.
If the crosshair is over the empty space around the photo, the card says Move the picture under the crosshair.
After you've opened a photo, the Choose photo button shows a small thumbnail of it.
Go back to the camera
Tap the large round shutter button in the middle of the bottom bar. VoiceOver reads it as Return to live camera.
ColoredEye closes the photo when you go back to the camera. To read it again, tap Choose photo and pick it again.
More you can do with a photo
A photo works just like a frozen camera picture:
- Find everywhere a color appears, such as every bar in a chart that matches its legend.
- See all the colors in an object.
- Check whether two colors match.
- Copy the hex and RGB values.
If a photo won't open
If you see Can't open photo, the item you picked isn't a picture ColoredEye can read, or it couldn't be loaded. Try another photo.
