Change where backups go

Updated

Choose a new destination

  1. If a backup is running, stop it. Change… is dimmed during a backup.
  2. Open Destination in the sidebar and click Change….
  3. Choose Connect to Server or Choose a Folder, and pick the new backup folder, as you did in setup. See Connect to your NAS or Back up to a drive or a share connected in Finder.
  4. Click Use This Destination. If you've backed up before, CloudBak asks you to confirm with Change Destination.

Run Setup Again… in Settings › General is another way to change the destination, and asks the same way.

What happens to your existing backup

Backups already on the old destination stay where they are, and CloudBak stops keeping track of them. The next backup copies everything you've selected to the new destination, which takes as long as the first backup did.

Choosing the folder you already use changes nothing, so CloudBak doesn't ask.

Keep the backup you have

To avoid copying everything again, copy your whole backup folder to the new place yourself before you change the destination. Copy the folder that holds iCloud Drive and _Archive, not just what's inside it. Then choose that copy in step 3.

The first backup to it recognizes the copies already there, with the same size and date, instead of copying them again. Activity shows how many files are already at the destination.
