CloudBak Privacy Policy
Effective September 19, 2026
CloudBak doesn't collect any information about you. It has no account, no servers, no analytics and no advertising. Your files go only from your Mac to the backup folder you choose, and nothing about you or your files is ever sent to us.
This policy covers CloudBak for Mac, made by MGS Technologies LLC. It explains what the app works with on your Mac, and what it doesn't do.
Your files
CloudBak backs up the files in your iCloud Drive to a folder you choose, on a network drive (NAS) or a drive attached to your Mac.
- iCloud Drive. Backing up only reads your files. A file that's stored only in iCloud is downloaded through macOS so it can be copied, then returned to iCloud to free the space again. CloudBak writes to iCloud Drive only when you restore files.
- Your backup folder. Copies of your files are saved in the folder you choose, and nowhere else.
- Folders you grant. macOS lets CloudBak open only the folders you give it permission to. It remembers that permission on your Mac so it doesn't have to ask again.
What stays on your Mac
To know what it has already backed up, CloudBak keeps some records on your Mac:
- A list of the files it has backed up: their names, where they are, their sizes and dates, and a checksum used to check each copy is intact.
- The history of your backups and their logs, and any issues it has found.
- Your settings, including the address of your backup folder and the account name used to connect to a NAS.
- The password for your NAS, if you give one, kept in your Mac's keychain and used only to connect to that NAS.
None of this leaves your Mac. It isn't sent to us or to anyone else. You can clear the backup records and history at any time with Settings › General › Reinitialize Database.
What CloudBak doesn't do
- It doesn't send any data to us or to any third party.
- It doesn't use analytics, tracking, advertising or any third-party code that does.
- It doesn't ask you to create an account, and doesn't know who you are.
- It connects only to the backup folder you choose, and to iCloud through macOS.
Apple
iCloud Drive is a service provided by Apple, and your use of it is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
If you have chosen to share crash data with app developers in your Mac's Privacy & Security settings, Apple may send us reports of CloudBak crashing. Apple controls what those reports contain. We use them only to find and fix problems in CloudBak.
Children
CloudBak doesn't collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If CloudBak ever starts handling information differently, this page will be updated first, with a new effective date at the top.
